Our professional engineers carefully site each home on its lot with concern for the environment . . . almost as though it had grown there, like a natural part of the softly rolling terrain. A Bowman Woods home nestles on its large lot along gently curved streets that discourage fast, through traffic and provide a safe, secure, protected neighborhood for our children. Bowman Woods is one of the best places in Cedar Rapids to raise a family . . . close to schools, major work centers, and just minutes from large modern shopping centers and the excellent cultural advantages of the city. HistoryThe name Bowman originated from the family name of an early settler. The farm was later owned by the Cooper Evans family who sold it to Midwest Development Co., a subsidiary of Skogman Homes. (Evans later became a congressman and worked in the Bush administration.) The first home was built in 1964. In that year, the average home price was $20,000 and lots cost $2,500. Today, there are more than 1,000 homes in Bowman Woods. The total concept included a park, grade school, church sites, and a private pool and tennis courts. The Bowman Woods Swim and Racquet Club has become dominant in the city swim meet. The neighborhood concept has proven effective as many residents have moved from home to home within the neighborhood. Some families have owned as many as four homes in Bowman Woods. Bowman Woods is believed to be the only neighborhood in Iowa with ongoing home construction for 30 years. It was the first development in Iowa to capture the total neighborhood concept. Initially, C Avenue was a gravel road. Community PrivilegesTake an early morning dip in the pool, play a fast game on our "Luv" of a tennis court, or play a game of sand volleyball. Jog to your heart's content or just stroll through the quiet streets. You'll find warmth and friendliness all over your new neighborhood. One of the finest school systems anywhere is located right here in Cedar Rapids. Bowman Woods children attend school in the safety of their own neighborhood in the splendid Bowman Woods Elementary School and the highly rated Linn-Mar Junior and Senior High Schools. A well equipped playground and park, located in the heart of Bowman Woods, are favorite summer play spots for the entire family. Winter fun centers around one of the city's best sledding hills. Iowa is famous for many things: clean, crisp country air; a wholesome atmosphere; excellent shopping centers; friendly people; and whole neighborhoods of Skogman Homes.
